TSME – GCC Sanitation and Waste Management Contractor/Service of the year 2010

Thiess Services Middle East (TSME) are delighted to announce that we received the GCC Sanitation and Waste Management contractor of the year award at the FM awards show held on 19th May in Dubai.

The award is industry recognition of the great work we are performing at the Saadiyat Island waste management facility, where we undertake waste collection and recycling for our client, the Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC).  

TSME have successfully recycled more than 290,000 tonnes of material destined for landfill. All construction and demolition waste is taken to the TSME Material Recovery Facility where wood, metal, plastic, cardboard/paper are extracted.  Remaining materials are then transferred to our on-site crushing operation where aggregate is produced to engineering specifications for re-use within the TDIC projects on Saadiyat Island.

The centralised location of our facility delivers the following environmental benefits:-
• Reduced haulage miles- waste leaving the island and imported quarry products;
• Reduced waste to landfill;
• Reduced environmental impacts associated with quarried aggregate production;
• Reduced fly tipping; and Increased recycling rates

TSME have also implemented office recycling schemes for clients, ensuring resources such as plastic, paper/ card, glass and cans are recycled.

Working in partnership with major clients such as TDIC, TSME are implementing dynamic waste strategies across the GCC.  These initiatives form part of TSME’s on-going commitment to the environment within the GCC. 

In addition to collecting this award, we were also shortlisted in the following categories:

• Overall GCC FM Company of the year;
• GCC FM Consultancy of the year;
• Green FM Contractor of the year;
• Sustainability Initiative of the year (submitted on behalf of TDIC); and
• Middle East Facilities Manager of the year (Mick Redmond).
